A Full Crcle Moment @ GAC

It was a real pleasure to spend Saturday at the Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend, fly tying and representing Fulling Mill while talking all things fly tying with fellow anglers and tyers.

I was particularly pleased to be showcasing Fulling Mill’s new range of GSP threads. Having now had the opportunity to use the GSP myself, I’ve been really impressed by its strength, fine diameter and the way it handles on the hook. It’s a pleasure to work with and will certainly be finding a regular place at my vice.

I was also impressed with the new range of Fulling Mill wires. Strong yet supple, and available in a variety of colours and diameters, including 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mm, they make an excellent addition to the Fulling Mill tying range.

But on a much more personal level, there was something else that made the day particularly special for me.

Around 16 or 17 years ago, I first went along to a Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend to watch Davie McPhail demonstrating his fly tying. In fact, I went along several times back then, standing among the crowd as an enthusiastic fly tyer, watching Davie tie flies, picking up tips and ideas, and even having the occasional wee chat with him.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that all these years later I would be sitting at the same venue, tying flies and representing Fulling Mill with their global sales manager: Steven Shortock, whilst sharing my own approach to traditional Scottish fly tying and chatting with fellow tyers.

It’s funny how things turn out.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, took an interest in my flies, wires and new GSP, or simply came over to say hello. It was great to meet so many fellow fly fishers and tyers, and I thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Sometimes you just never know where a bobbin, a hook and a bit of thread might take you!
